Many people feel that their life is not heading in the direction they want.
The main reason why these people feel this way is because they have not set clearly defined goals.
Why Set Goals?
Setting goals can help you become more focused and motivated.
Creating a plan for your life will also assist with your self-confidence. As you set and achieve more of your goals, your levels of happiness will also increase.
What Steps do you need to follow to set Your Goals?
Step 1: Divide your life into below categories (or categories of your own):
* Physical
* Career
* Financial
* Relationships
* Education
* Recreational
* Community/Public Service
Step 2: Next to each category, write down short, medium and long term goals that you would like to achieve.
Short term goals can be less than 5 years, medium range goals can be between 5 years and 10 years and long term goals can be above 10 years.
Step 3: Keep in mind the SMART Goals mnemonic. SMART usually stands for:
* S – Specific
* M – Measurable
* A – Attainable
* R – Relevant
* T – Time-bound
Continue to brainstorm. Look within to discover what goals are most meaningful to you. Remember write your goals down.
As you write your goals down, they become clearer in your mind and you become more accountable to achieving them.
Step 4: Create an action plan to begin with. Who do you need to contact? What new skill do you need to learn?
What do you need to let go of?
As you build momentum and achieve more of your goals, you can set larger goals.
It is best to break your goals into smaller manageable goals to begin with. This way you will maintain your focus and resolve to achieve your goals.
Step 5: Reward Yourself
Goal setting should be an enjoyable and rewarding process. When you have achieved a major goal, reward yourself.
Absorb the joy of goal achievement. This process will train your brain that goal setting is both fun and good for your self confidence.
Setting goals can bring you many rewards. It can boost your confidence, help you achieve greater career and financial success, help you develop good relationships with people, help you maintain your fitness and lifestyle balance and give you meaningful purpose in your community.
As 2013 draws to a close and you welcome a New Year 2014, revisit your goals to create the life you really want and deserve.
All the best with achieving your goals,
